On 24 February 2010, Tendulkar became the first man to
score a double century (200*) in an ODI against South Africa. Thus, Everyone from
India started appealing that Bharat Ratna should be given to Great Sachin
Tendulkar. And here the Controversy
starts.
Does greatness need Sarkari certification?
Would Sachin Tendukar be any lesser than what he is without a Bharat Ratna?
The
answer to both would be negative.
“Bharat Ratna” is the highest civilian
award given to the people who gave their exceptional service/performance. From 1954-2011
it given to just 41 person from the fields of art, literature, science and
public services. It has been awarded by Government of India. As we know that
sports was not eligible criteria for this award. But, In Dec 2011 Government
made some changes and now sports also become included in it.
After making changes in the eligibility
criteria now there is a question to whom should this award be given? Two names nowadays
are on everyone’s lips, Master Blaster “Sachin Tendulkar” and Father of Indian Hockey “Dhyan Chand Singh”. Confused???
Ya me too…. Both players had given extraordinary performance in their
game and it is unbeatable for next few centuries.
Sachin
Tendulkar, born on 24th April 1973 who is the 1st
player on this planet to score double
century in one day international. Tendulkar is the first and the only player in
Test Cricket history to score fifty centuries, and the first to score fifty
centuries in all international cricket combined; he now has 99 centuries (48 ODI
& 51 Test cricket) in international cricket. In 2002, just 12 years into
his career, Wisden ranked him the second greatest Test batsman of all time,
behind Donald Bradman, and the second greatest one-day-international (ODI)
batsman of all time, behind Viv Richards. Tendulkar passed 30,000 runs in international
cricket on 20 November 2009. He has lots of records on his name. We can’t even
count it.
Dhyan
Chand Singh, born August 29, 1905 in Allahabad, He is the greatest hockey
player all time in India. He was a member of the gold medal winning Indian
teams at the (1928 Amsterdam Olympics, the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, and the the
1936 Berlin Olympics), the last of which he captained. Appointed captain for
the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Leads India to a great victory over Germany in the
final. Dhyan Chand and Roop Singh score 11 goals each out of India's total of
38 goals in the Berlin Olympic hockey tournament. Dhyan Chand scores 59 goals
out of India's 175 on the world tour. And all his career goals are more than
1000.
In 1936 Berlin Olympics, Hitlar saw Dhyan
Chand’s play and he was very impressed. He asked Dhyan chand to meet him and offered
him a high post in the German army and requested him to come and live in
Germany and Dhyan Chand politely refused.
He kept playing till the age of 42 years,
and retired from the game in the year 1948. Dhyan Chand met Don Bradman, the
Cricket Maestro at Adelaide in the year 1935. After watching him play Hockey,
Bradman commented “He scores goals like runs in Cricket.” This Great Person
passes away on 3rd December 1979
(aged 74) in Delhi.
Vishwanathan Anand, born on 11 December 1969, the great
Indian Chess Grandmaster and current world chess champion. Even he is the
winner of FIDE World Rapid Chess Champion 2003.
He held the FIDE World Chess Championship from 2000 to 2002. He become
the undisputed World Champion in 2007 and so on. Anand has won the Chess Oscar in 1997, 1998, 2003,
2004, 2007 and 2008. The Chess Oscar is awarded to the year's best player
according to a worldwide poll of leading chess critics, writers, and
journalists conducted by the Russian chess magazine 64.
Undisputed
but Ignored boxer of India named Mangte
Chungneijang Merykom, also known as MC Mary Kom or Mary
Kom born on 1 March 1983, feamale boxer
from Manipur. She won five subsequent Indian National Championships from
2000 to 2005. Recently she won fifth
consecutive World Boxing Championship Title in Barbados on Saturday, Sep 18, 2010 in
Bridgetown. Mary Kom is the only boxer
to have won a medal in each one of the six World Championships. She won number
of National and International sports championships. So, I honestly think that
she should consider for The Highest Civilian Award “Bharat Ratna”.
Now am ending this article with my
conclusion which is that Everyone will be happy if any player gets this award. But my wish is
that all above 4 players are more deserving than any other players right now
and they should not get unnoticed and ignored.
